Orangefest is set to host a free autumn family fun day this weekend in South Belfast.
As part of the cultural organisation’s year-round community outreach programme a whole host of activities are planned to take place at The Ruby Murray Village Green, Moltke Street, from 11am to 3pm.
The event will bring together live music, creative activities, entertainment and games for families and local residents.
The programme will include live music from Ulster Scots folk and cover band The Rogues, a Belfast Street Songs Singalong, badge and keyring making, colouring in, arts and crafts, bouncy castles, face painting, balloon modelling and garden games and more.
There will also be visits from Stitch and Mario during the event.
The Autumn Family Fun Day forms part of Orangefest’s wider community outreach programme which included a series of activities in Tullycarnet in East Belfast last month, extending its programme of family-friendly activity beyond its flagship events around the annual Twelfth celebrations.
While Orangefest is best known for its annual programme of cultural and family events in Belfast city centre, the organisation also delivers community outreach events across the city throughout the year.
The South Belfast event is intended to give families and local residents an opportunity to come together in their own community for an accessible day of activities and entertainment.
Orangefest director William Hughes said: “Orangefest is about creating a welcoming and family-friendly atmosphere and giving people the opportunity to come together and enjoy something positive in their own community.
“We’re delighted to bring the Autumn Family Fun Day to South Belfast as part of our wider community outreach programme. We want families, local residents and people from across the city to come along, enjoy the entertainment and make the most of everything on offer.
“Everything on the day is free because we want the event to be accessible, enjoyable and open to as many people as possible. Our aim is to build on the work we’ve been doing through Orangefest and create more opportunities to connect with communities across Belfast throughout the year.
“There’s even a snack bag, some things to take home and free ice cream.”
Music throughout the afternoon will include a performance from three-piece band The Rogues, who will play a mix of traditional Irish and Scottish tunes and songs alongside folk, country and pop and rock favourites.
Families will also be able to get involved themselves through the Belfast Street Songs Singalong, alongside a programme designed to offer activities for children of different ages and interests.
The Orangefest team will also be on hand to support visitors to take part in a range of creative activities giving attendees the chance to make their own badges and keyrings as well as get artsy at the colouring in and arts and crafts table.
Orangefest was established in 2007 and has traditionally complemented Belfast’s annual Twelfth celebrations with family-friendly cultural and entertainment activities.
In recent years its work has developed to include a wider programme of family events, educational activity and community outreach throughout the year, with a focus on creating opportunities for people to engage with Orangefest and its activities in different parts of Belfast.
The Orangefest Autumn Family Fun Day takes place on Saturday September 26, from 11am to 3pm, at The Ruby Murray Village Green, Moltke Street, South Belfast.
